Islam is a religion of divine guidance that not only teaches worship but also connects believers with spiritual routines that enrich their lives. One such blessed act is the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf every Friday. This weekly Sunnah carries immense spiritual significance and is backed by numerous authentic Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Surah Al-Kahf, the 18th chapter of the Qur’an, contains profound lessons about faith, trials, gratitude, and reliance upon Allah. It provides light, protection from Dajjal (the Antichrist), and divine guidance in times of fitnah (tribulation).
Why Recite Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays?
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ emphasized the virtue of reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays. This weekly Sunnah is not only a means of gaining Allah’s mercy but also a source of spiritual light, both in this world and the Hereafter.
Hadiths on the Virtue of Surah Al-Kahf
Here are some authentic Hadiths that highlight the significance of this Surah:
- Light for the Entire Week
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him between this Friday and the next.”
(Sahih al-Jami’ – 6470, Al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak, 2/399; graded Sahih by Al-Albani)
This Hadith shows that reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday becomes a source of Noor (light) that continues to bless the person for an entire week.
- Protection from Dajjal (The False Messiah)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.”
(Sahih Muslim – 809)
In another narration:
“Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next, and he will be protected from the Fitnah of Dajjal.”
(Al-Mustadrak – 2/368; Al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman; graded Sahih by scholars)
This Hadith emphasizes that Surah Al-Kahf is not just spiritually enlightening—it also acts as a shield from one of the greatest tribulations before the Day of Judgment.

- Musa (AS) and Al-Khidr
The story of Prophet Musa’s journey with Al-Khidr teaches patience, divine wisdom, and trusting Allah’s plan, even when we don’t understand it.
- Dhul-Qarnayn
The righteous king who travels to different lands, establishing justice and building a barrier to protect people from Ya’juj and Ma’juj. This teaches leadership, justice, and reliance on Allah.
